World Cup villages: No stampede for tickets yet, “but don’t panic”

In Ostend they have more than ten years of experience in setting up large World Cup villages on the Wellington Hippodrome. Here too, they admit that sales and the football madness are certainly not running a storm yet. Only 700 tickets have been sold.

“Expected by winter edition”

According to the organizers, there is no cause for concern. “I think we could expect that with a winter edition. It is not really alive yet,” says Olivier Orlans of the World Cup village in Ostend, who does not immediately panic. “In 2018 we had a presale of 167 tickets for the match against Panama, but in the end there were 5,000 people here.”

On Wednesday, November 23 against Canada, they expect almost 2,000 supporters in Ostend.

Ticket sales are also disappointing for the World Cup village in Depart in Kortrijk. There are 1000 places per match, in total there are only 100 tickets left. Still, the organizer does not intend to cancel. Niels Lybeer: “I really hope that the World Cup madness will come. Each match costs us 8000 euros. But the proceeds go to Jongerenatelier vzw.

Free

In Ingelmunster there will be a large tent on the Market Square. They bet on about 2,500 people per match. In a municipality with 11,000 inhabitants, that is not bad.

Many cafe owners participate in this event and will close their own business. According to the organization, it also makes a difference that the event is free there. “That certainly plays a role, because if they have to pay, they won’t come,” says Francis Vandeputte.
