World Cup Soccer Podcast | ‘Football is not a jury sport, it’s about the result!’ | football world cup

The Orange has qualified for the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar. America was defeated 3-1. The game wasn’t good, but it was effective. So enough material to talk about for Etienne Verhoeff with Maarten Wijffels and Mikos Gouka. Also with an eye on the opponent: Argentina.

,,I’m afraid this is it for Orange. It’s not going to be much more than this”, Wijffels analyzes the duel with VS. ,,And maybe this tournament is no longer necessary. Van Marwijk in 2010 and Van Gaal in 2014 and now have found a way to arm the Dutch national team against all opponents in the world. That has resulted in two medals at a World Cup. Football is first and foremost about results. It’s not a jury sport, is it?”

Gouka does not entirely agree with me. “You can conclude that it is not enough what we now see from the Dutch national team? Van Gaal himself says so, as do the players. It was not good enough for the Orange in possession. It is not for nothing that Van Gaal changes two players at half-time.”

“But how do you scale Orange?” Wijffels wonders. “It is not realistic that we will reach the semi-finals on this world stage. Unless you make up a ruse. Abroad, they look with more realism at what is happening in our football. Sometimes it seems as if it is still the 1970s with us.”
