After two wins from two games, Poland received a possibly serious defeat against Finland in the first game after the resignation.

On Tuesday evening (June 10th), the Poles, who had previously led the qualification group G with six points from two games, were subject to 1: 2 (0: 1) in Helsinki and slipped in third place behind the Netherlands and the Finn. Joel Pohjanpalo (31st minute) and Benjamin Källman (64th) scored for Finland, Jakub Kiwior (69.) only the connection goal.

Lewandowski had announced at the weekend that he no longer wanted to play for his country under national coach Michal Tasty after he had told him by phone that he would withdraw the captain’s bond and instead gave them to Piotr Zielinski.

Poland awards various opportunities

In the 6th minute of the game, Lewandowski replacement had Krzysztof Piatek directly the first good header chance after a cross from the right, but put the ball too much on Lukas Hradecky in the goal of the Finn. Shortly afterwards, the Leverkusen goalkeeper was on the spot against a low shot of the ex-Herthaner with a brilliant parade, the margin of Matty Cash was just blocked (11th).

After about half an hour, referee Joao Pinheiro in Helsinki suddenly decided on a penalty for the hosts: Poland keeper Lukasz Skorupski had caught the Finn Robin Lod in the penalty area in the penalty area – this was also the case of the minute -long video check. Pohjanpalo started and turned ice cold in the middle to the somewhat flattering tour for the hosts, who had had a lot of possession of the ball to date, but had no chance of scoring. The team of the Danish coach Jacob Friis subsequently became more dangerous, ran up the Poles and thus earned the leadership afterwards. Nevertheless, the guests could have equalized before the break, but after a fantastic passport, the Jakub Moder started was unable to shoot the ball from a good central shot position onto the Finnish housing.

Finland ice cold – Kiwior only does that Connecting goal

In half two, the Finns used their momentum won since the lead and created a few chances – Arttu Hoskonen hit only the crossbar of the Polish gate (54.). On the other hand, the cash starting on the right missed too centrally against Hradecky (57th). The Poles absolutely wanted to compensate and now moved forward in their own possession of the ball – and that gave rooms: Oliver Antman hurried to the left Finnish attack side, sprinted forward with all its might and put the ball over on Källman, who took a very long step into the orphaned goal (64.).

That evening it seemed as if the Poles could simply not bring the ball over the line without their 36 -year -old top striker, but after an extended throw -in Kiwior, Kiwior stuck in a tangle of Finnish and Polish ball touches directly at the five -meter room for the ball for hradecky (69.).

Medical emergency ensures long interruption

Shortly afterwards, the encounter was interrupted for over 30 minutes due to a medical emergency on the stands and both teams sent to the cabins.

After the restart, the Poles certainly had other shooting chances to achieve at least the 2-2 – in the end there were 23 attempts that flew in the direction of Hradecky. But they lacked an accurate striker that day.
