The Chileans prevailed 3-2 (1-1) in the South American qualifier in Bolivia on matchday 16 and are now in fifth place with 19 points. For Chile it was the fifth victory.
Double striker Alexis Sanchez (14./85.) gave the Chileans, who had to do without first-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, an early lead with a direct free kick from almost 25 meters. In addition, the 21-year-old Marcelino Nunez entered the scorer list (77th). Marc Enoumba scored for Bolivia to equalize (37′) and shortly before the end Marcelo Moreno (88′). The game started 30 minutes late due to heavy rain.
The top four teams have secured their ticket to the finals in Qatar, with the fifth going into the playoffs. Brazil and Argentina have already been confirmed as World Cup participants.
