World Cup on the Reiteralm: Ski crosser Maier confirms best performance of the season

Status: 02/16/2023 12:59 p.m

Daniela Maier and Florian Wilmsmann held up the German flag at the Ski Cross World Cup on the Reiteralm. For her teammates it was over early.

Skicrosser Daniela Maier finished third at the World Cup on the Reiteralm, confirming her best result of the season. She only had to admit defeat to Sandra Naeslund (Sweden) and Marielle Thompson (Canada).

In the final, Maier, who had a commanding start-finish victory in the quarter- and semi-finals, didn’t get off so well at the start and had a deficit early on, which she didn’t do on the almost 1.25 kilometer long course with 46 elements could do better. She finished third for the fourth time this season. She had previously done so in Val Thorens, Arosa and Idre Fjäll.

Naeslund historical – Wilmsmann with bad luck

Naeslund is simply unbeatable at the moment, it was her 16th World Cup victory in a row. The last time the Swede333 was not at the top of the podium was in December 2021. In doing so, she also wrote sports history – never before has an athlete achieved such a winning streak in a Ski World Cup.

Florian Wilmsmann made it to the semifinals in Austria. There, however, he retired after a fall in the finish corner and has to wait for his first podium finish of the winter. Thanks to a strong driving performance, he clinched victory in the small final and thus fifth place in the final standings. The men’s victory also went to Sweden. David Mobaerg prevailed in the final.

German quintet says goodbye early

For the rest of the six DSV men it was already over in the first round. After colliding with an opponent, Ferdinand Dorsch lost his pace and thus had no chance of finishing in the top two of his race. Tim Hronek did not get through the first third of the course well and lost ground to his opponents, he was unable to make up for this early deficit. Daniel Bohnacker also dropped out in the round of 16 after a driving error, and Tobias Müller also had to give up in the same run. Although he had good prospects in the race for a long time, the finish photo decided against him. Niklas Bachsleitner was also unable to assert himself against his three competitors for the quarter-finals and ended the World Cup very early as fourth in his race.
