World Cup leader Leclerc drops out at Spanish GP due to engine problems | NOW

Charles Leclerc retired halfway through the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday with engine problems. The World Cup leader was in first place when his Ferrari stalled.

Leclerc started from pole position on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and kept second place Max Verstappen behind him at the start.

The Monegask then seemed to be on his way to a convincing victory, also because Verstappen briefly shot off the track in the early stages and, just like on Saturday, had problems with his DRS system.

With 39 of 66 laps to go, Leclerc suddenly started to drive slowly. He sent his car into the pits and was unable to continue. Ferrari reported in an initial response that it was “problems with the engine”.

Leclerc will lose extremely valuable points in the battle for the world championship due to his retirement. He had a nineteen point lead over number two Verstappen before the Spanish GP.
