The second round in the huge slalom of Sestriere promises tension: after the first run, Vice World Champion Alice Robinson leads to world champion Federica Brignone.
Vice World Champion Alice Robinson is in the lead in the first giant slalom after the Ski World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in front of world champion Federica Brignone. Lena Dürr, who became strong ninth in the giant slalom at the World Cup, was due to illness not at the start.
The giant slalom in Sestriere demands the skiers. The slope in Piedmont is at over 2,000 meters. The New Zealander Alice Robinson showed the most fitness. The vice world champion drove an aggressive line in the upper part – at the finish she was 0.19 seconds ahead of Federica Brignone.
The Italian, who became a world champion in Saalbach, started off at her home race. Brignone could not drive as Kataftvol in the upper section of the route as Robinson, but in the lower part – spurred on the Tifosi – she got everything out and cheered over her time. After the first run, Paula Moltzan from the USA (+0.83) is on Paltz three.
Dürr does not start
Lena Dürr, who surprised ninth at the World Cup giant slalom, misses the two giant slaloms in sestriere. She is still fighting with a cold that also affected the World Cup slalom last Sunday. It is not yet clear whether she will start at the slalom on Sunday.
Shiffrin’s first giant slalom after injury
For Mikaela Shiffrin, the giant slalom in Italy was the first after her serious injury, which she suffered from the giant slalom in Killington. The American, who became fifth in the World Cup slalom, is not yet competitive in the giant slalom. Her gap to the leading Robinson is 2.89 seconds.
Does Brignone do well in the overall World Cup?
If Brignone finished in the second run, the Italian could expand her lead in the overall World Cup. Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland, which is 70 points behind Brignone, was eliminated after a driving error in the first muer.
