World Cup in Ruhpolding should take place as planned

The Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding, Bavaria, is to take place as planned in the past few days despite the rain and high temperatures.

Mayor and head of organization Justus Pfeifer have already given the “green light” for the five-day event starting next Wednesday, the organizers said.

Mainly thanks to the company’s own snow depot, the preparation of the route could be “completed on schedule” even without fresh natural snow. Accordingly, 80 percent of the stored snow withstood the summer and could or can still be used.

A white band with the routes can currently be seen in and around the Chiemgau Arena, otherwise the green of the meadows dominates the picture. “An entire village is in biathlon fever and is looking forward to exciting competitions and wishes all athletes good luck and success!” Pfeifer was quoted as saying in a statement.

The men’s individual is planned for Wednesday, followed by the women’s individual by two relay races and two mass starts by Sunday.
