The soccer World Cup in Qatar will probably have a real opening game after all – and this one day earlier than previously planned.

As the news agency “AFP” reported on Wednesday with reference to sources from the World Cup organization, the winter tournament is now scheduled to begin on November 20 (Sunday).

Previously, the official “opening game” between the hosts and Ecuador was scheduled for November 21, but the first World Cup game would have been Senegal against the Netherlands on the same day. England-Iran would also have been played before the official opening.

According to “AFP”, the world football association FIFA and Qatar themselves have approved the request of the World Cup organizing committee to bring the game forward. The final of the finals will be played at Lusail Iconic Stadium on December 18th. The Bundesliga goes into the World Cup break on November 13th.
