The German ski jumpers jumped strongly in Lake Placid on XXL working day. Agnes Reisch cheered over ski jump record, Selina Freitag over fourth place.

It was a hanging game and a very long working day for the ski jumpers at the World Cup start in Lake Placid. Because the wind blew too much, jumping had to be canceled on Friday morning, followed by the re -start eight hours later – in the middle of the night in Germany.

Nika Prevc from Slovenia was best digested by the long break. She secured the victory and jealous her brother: Domen Prevc had won the qualification two hours earlier.

But the Germans also had every reason to be happy with frosty temperatures and snow. Selina Friday from the WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal flew to fourth place in the turbulent competition. With 123.5 and 125 meters, almost four points were missing from the podium.

Agnes Reisch, which set a fragrance brand with a new ski jump record (130.5 meters), provided a bang. Nevertheless, it was “only” enough for fifth place because Reisch had landed in the first round in good conditions after 123.5 meters.

Schmid – anger after jumping force

Katharina Schmid ended the first day of competition in eleventh place and may have been annoyed by her first jump. The seven -time world champion wanted too much, missed the jump and shook her head disappointed after 110.5 meters. In the final she showed what she really can do and improved by two places with 124.5 meters.

Juliane Seyfarth also only made a good jump. The 34-year-old from WSC Ruhla was on a top ten course in the first round after 124.5 meters, but declined significantly after only 102.5 meters in the second attempt (18th).

Wind ensures hanging area

The Germans only traveled to Lake Placid with a mini team and without head coach Heinz Kuttin. In advance, it had been decided that only the four athletes, who are certainly only Nordic Ski World Cup to Trondheim, were nominated. All others start at the FIS Continental Cup in Eisenerz.

From a distance they are likely to have followed the turbulence. The ski jumpers should actually jump in the morning (local time), but the first attempt to start had to be canceled after only 15 of the 40 starters because the wind blew too strongly and changeable.

For the jumpers, after 90 long minutes we went back to the hotel on the ski jump and back onto the hill late in the evening. The wind was still impossible, but no longer changed as wildly as at the beginning of the day. The XXL day ended conciliator, although from a German perspective not with a podium.
