Double pack from Liverpool star

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has qualified for the 2026 World Cup with Egypt. The goalscorer led the seven-time African champions to a 3-0 (2-0) win against Djibouti in Casablanca, which means the victory in Group A is perfect. It is Egypt’s fourth World Cup participation after 1934, 1990 and 2018.

Salah contributed two goals in the 14th and 84th minutes to the confident success, and Ibrahim Adel also scored against the bottom team (8th). Four years ago, Egypt bitterly missed out on Qatar’s World Cup ticket when they lost to Senegal on penalties. Salah is now hoping for a better performance at the finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico than at the 2018 World Cup, when his team was eliminated bottom of the group with three defeats.

Ghana and Cape Verde, coached by Otto Addo, have to be patient. The Black Stars clearly won 5-0 (1-0) in the Central African Republic and are still three points ahead of Madagascar at the top of Group I and have a significantly better goal difference – but purely mathematically the outcome is still open.

Cape Verde managed to win 3:3 (1:2) in Libya after a two-goal deficit, but their pursuers Cameroon moved up to two points. On the last day of the match, however, the Blue Sharks, Eswatini, who are last in Group D, are waiting for them.
