The Czech Republic national team struggled with unusual obstacles before the start of the World Cup. First the bus went on strike, then sprinklers caused involuntary cooling.

Before the start against South Korea at the World Cup in Mexico, the Czech national team had to struggle with extraordinary logistical problems. After head coach Miroslav Koubek’s press conference, the team set off for the final training session at the Sports Arena in Guadalajara on Thursday, where the first session on Mexican soil was to take place.

However, the journey was difficult and did not go according to plan: the team bus accidentally drove through the wrong gate onto the site and got stuck at the entrance. Several attempts by the driver to maneuver the vehicle again were unsuccessful. The players and staff then decided to leave the bus and walk the rest of the way across the parking lot to the training ground.

The stuck bus blocked two of the three lanes of the adjacent road, causing a significant backlog. The National Guard accompanying the team closed the remaining lane to allow the driver to maneuver. Still it didn’t work. Loose stones on the site also made the situation more difficult.

But that’s not enough. The team had barely reached the training field when the next incident followed: During a short meeting on the halfway line, the sprinklers suddenly turned on and put both the players and the international media representatives present under water. Those involved responded to the incident with composure and humor.

It remains to be hoped that the Czech national team will be spared further complications in their first World Cup game on the pitch on Friday night (from 4 a.m. in the live ticker on t-online). And no further unforeseeable negative surprises await you.
