Carlo Ancelotti has won everything at club level and is now appearing at a World Cup for the first time as a coach. Before the tournament begins, video messages move him to tears.
At the most recent World Cups, Brazil’s national team always fell short of great expectations. At the 2026 World Cup, the record holder wants to build on old successes again – led by coaching legend Carlo Ancelotti.
The man who has won the Champions League five times and won national championships in Italy, England, France, Germany and Spain is heading to a World Cup as head coach for the first time after decades of work at club level. The tournament is likely to be correspondingly special for him. But he experienced an emotional moment before the start.
During an interview, the national coach sees video messages from his grandchildren. “We hope you win the World Cup and beat both Italy and Spain,” say the first two grandchildren. The next two then follow up: “Good luck at the World Cup, Grandpa. We love you!” At that moment you can already see Ancelotti’s first tears.

When a granddaughter speaks up, the head coach has to wipe the tears from his eyes. “Grandpa, I love you so much. Go on, get the world title!” the girl calls out to him. The visibly touched Ancelotti then thanks his interview partner for the video messages.
Ancelotti took over the Brazilian national team last summer. Previously, he worked in club football for almost three decades, coaching top clubs such as FC Bayern, Real Madrid and AC Milan. He has already experienced a World Cup as a coach, but at the 1994 tournament he was only an assistant coach Italian national team.
