World champion coach Lionel Scaloni remains loyal to the Argentine national football team and is expected to repeat the 2022 coup in 2026.
The national association AFA announced the agreement on the extension of the contract with the 44-year-old on Monday. Association President Claudio Tapia had met with Scaloni in Paris.
Lionel Scaloni, previously a professional for many years, mainly in Spain and Italy, took over the head coaching position in 2018. At the World Cup in Qatar, he led Argentina to their third title after 1978 and 1986 in the final against France (4-2 on pens). The 2026 World Cup finals will be played in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Scalonis superstar Lionel Messi (Paris St. Germain) will probably not be there anymore. But first, Messi wants to continue his national team career. Scaloni has stated that he will always keep the door open for this.
