The German workwear provider Strauss is cooperating with the US tech company Meta to develop digital tool glasses. The cooperation was concluded with the meta-offshoot XR Craft, a platform for creating content in augmented reality (XR) that supports both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
For this purpose, Strauss founded its own unit ‘Strauss Neo Works’ and developed a virtual tool app with which Meta’s VR glasses, the Meta Quest, are intended to become digital tool glasses. In the first release, the combination of glasses and app makes it possible to measure, level, calculate area dimensions or transfer shapes virtually in space without the need for additional analog tools. Strauss is also exploring other immersive applications that will help tomorrow’s craftsmen learn complex skills faster and work smarter.
Strauss is thereby creating a new product category: workwearables. They use the potential of existing technologies to develop tools specifically for craftsmen and professional users. The company’s vision is to develop a new range of extended reality (XR) products for use cases in the trades.
“The early bird is already getting ready today for the working world of tomorrow! My forecast: Crafts will become more important! Artificial intelligence may replace job profiles – it won’t be building houses in the future either. Strauss wants to continue to help get young people excited about this important craft – that’s why we in Silicon Valley are committed to putting the topic of crafts and real work on the radar. What the juniors will need are new skills and new tools. We’re taking the first step with our work wearables,” explains Henning Strauss, CEO of Strauss.
