There will be no trains running between Bruges and Blankenberge this and next weekend. Infrabel is working on the railways there. This involves urgent track maintenance where the rails are being broken out.
“It concerns 16 kilometers of rails that need to be renewed. With the naked eye you can sometimes see pits and small cracks. After forty to fifty years, those rods would certainly benefit from being taken care of,” says Wouter De Mets of Infrabel.
The work will take place at weekends and during the week during the night to minimize disruption to passenger traffic. In addition to the replacement of four switches, work is also being done on the drainage of the track bed. “A number of zones are less stable and we are now solving this by remediating them. The foundation is being renewed,” De Mets continues.
During the weekend, NMBS deploys replacement buses. The works on the track between Blankenberge and Bruges will last until the end of March.
