Previously unreleased Frank Zappa songs, jam sessions and alternative versions of well-known Zappa songs appear under the title “Funky Nothingness”. With “Work With Me Annie / Annie Hat A Baby” the first song has already been released.
“’Funky Nothingness’ is compelling in every way and showcases Zappa’s love of rhythm ‘n’ blues. He picks up where ‘Hot Rats’ left off with sprawling instrumental elaborations that fuse rock, jazz and classical elements into music that can only be described as ZAPPA,” Zappa Archivist Joe Travers is quoted as saying in the accompanying press release . Together with Ahmet Zappa, the son of the musician who died in 1993, they put together “Funky Nothingness”. The album will be released on June 30th and will be available in both 2LP and 3CD format.
The first release is a merging of the two R’n’B numbers by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters from the 1950s.
