Work permit puts an end to AZ hazing of ‘super talent’ Sowah

‘Super talent, very expensive purchase, great opportunity’. All words were used after AZ announced that Kamal Sowah is coming to Alkmaar for six months. Unfortunately for trainer Pascal Jansen, the 22-year-old attacker is not yet eligible to play for the top match with PSV.

Nevertheless, Sowah made a good impression on Jansen. The trainer has viewed images of him from his time at Club Brugge and OH Leuven. It remains to be seen what Sowah has to offer on the training field. Because his work permit is not yet in order, he is not yet allowed to fully train with AZ.

In any case, Jansen can again have Zakaria Aboukhlal at his disposal against PSV. He returned from the Africa Cup last week. Aslak Witry is not yet present and the longer injured Jelle Duin also misses the match.

Replacement Gudmundsson

With Sowah, AZ acquired the desired ‘fast winger with depth’. Last Friday, Jansen pronounced that still would like to take home. Opposite this is the departure of Albert Gudmundsson to Genoa.

AZ also managed to strengthen itself in the left back position. The Alkmaarders were already preparing for a possible summer departure of Owen Wijndal. Milos Kerkez came over from AC Milan and already impresses in his first week in training. It is expected, however, that he will have to make up for himself in the ranking and will have to act as Wijndal’s stand-in.

The PSV – AZ match starts on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Philips Stadium. Earlier this season, AZ lost 3-0 to the Eindhoven team at home.
