For the third time, Jeroen Boersma from Rolde wins the Dutch Championship Sculptuurzagen. His winning artwork is based on the book ‘De Kleine Prins’ and consists of several parts. The prince is on a planet, there are clouds and an monkey bread tree.
A technical feat, because the sculpture is partly assessed on that. In addition to the main part, Boersma also won the ‘Speedcarving’ section for the third time in a row.
“People see the chainsaw as the most destructive tools. I see it as a machine that has 86 axes and that I can let my work go very quickly,” says Boersma.
He can work very detailed through different saws. For example, the face of the sculpture has a recognizable expression and the different forms worked with an eye for detail.
But that doesn’t mean it went without saying. “You all have places here where you have to sit very deep in the work. Due to the rose you can’t reach the side and also the sword is in the way. Of course I would rather do it without the rose, but then you wouldn’t win such a prize.”
The level is high according to the artist at the Dutch Championship. “The real top in the Netherlands is going on there. You have to show the best thing you can do. That is a very nice challenge.”
Boersma not only participates in competitions, the Houtkunst is also his work. “If you can make a nice shelf, that is one. But if you make it a beautiful work of art, such a tree really gets a second life. I really like to get started.”
