The women’s national football team will be on stage in Switzerland next summer to redeem the elimination from the groups of the 2022 edition
It was the hand of Leonardo Bonucci that paved the way for Italy in the Swiss Women’s European Championship 2025. Invited by UEFA to the draw in Lausanne (together with other ambassadors, including Sami Khedira and Raphael Varane), the former champion Europe – today on the technical staff of the men’s U20 – has pulled out the prize for Andrea Soncin’s Azzurre within group B, together with Spain, Belgium and Portugal. A draw that cannot be defined as hostile, considering the qualification for the quarter-finals expected for the top two in each group.
Starting from the second pot, Italy (in 13th place in the Fifa ranking) will therefore find the Spanish world champions – seeded -, with whom they have recently demonstrated that they can compete, both in the last Nations League (a victory for part) and in the friendly match in October in Vicenza (1-1). Not to be underestimated, but still within reach, are the matches with Belgium and Portugal, in 19th and 22nd place in the ranking respectively. Euro 2025 will be played in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July, in eight cities including Basel, home of the opening match and the final.
