Women’s EM: England outclassed Norway

It took twelve minutes for England to score for the first time. A few minutes later the game was decided – and Norway experienced a debacle.

Goal gala in the top game: With a record win, England’s women’s national team became the first team to reach the quarter-finals at the home European Championship. With the 8-0 (6-0) win over Norway in Brighton on Monday evening, the English team booked their place in the last eight early. The hosts have even been confirmed as the winners of Group A and could possibly become opponents of the German DFB team in the quarter-finals.

In front of a capacity crowd of 28,500, Beth Mead (34th, 38th and 81st) scored with a hat-trick, Ellen White (29th and 41st), Georgia Stanway (12th from penalties), Lauren Hemp (15th) and Substitute Alessia Russo (66th) scored for the vastly superior English women. In 2017 they had won the title fights in the Netherlands against Scotland 6-0 – it had been the highest victory at a European Championship so far.
