Status: 04.01.2023 6:35 p.m

Stephan Lerch will train the Bundesliga women at TSG Hoffenheim from March 13th. The 38-year-old succeeds the dismissed Gabor Gallai.

The former Wolfsburg champion coach Lerch will remain coach of the U19s until the last match day of the Junior Bundesliga. Until then, the women’s team will be looked after by Nadine Rolser and Rico Weber on an interim basis.

“I’ve followed women’s football closely over the past two years and would like to use the experience I’ve gained in the youth field there in the future,” said Lerch.

“It quickly became clear to us that in Stephan Lerch we have the ideal successor for Gabor Gallai in our own ranks. After he signaled that he could imagine returning to women’s football, we intensified the talks,” said department head Ralf Zwanziger .

Stephan Lerch with many successes with VfL Wolfsburg

Lerch coached the women’s team at VfL Wolfsburg between 2017 and 2021 and won the German championship three times and the DFB Cup four times with the club. In the summer of 2021, Lerch switched to Hoffenheim’s youth department.

The TSG women played in the Champions League in 2020/21 but failed to take part in the following season and are currently only fifth in the Bundesliga table. Gallai was therefore released from TSG on December 20th.
