In the women’s Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln suffered a home defeat.
In the Franz Kremer Stadium at home, Cologne lost 1:2 (1:0) against Frankfurt on Saturday evening. The Cologne team remains in eighth place in the midfield of the Bundesliga table for the time being, Frankfurt is third.
Six days after Away win in Nuremberg FC coach Britta Carlson’s team went into the game against Frankfurt as underdogs. However, the Cologne team got off to a lightning start: after a corner from the left side, Marina Hegering headed in the second minute of the game to make it 1-0 for Cologne.
Shortly afterwards, the hosts were lucky: FC goalkeeper Irina Fuchs took too much time at the opening of the game, Nicole Anyomi put her under pressure and won the ball. But the subsequent lob from Eintracht striker Remina Chiba fell too short, so that Fuchs was able to correct her mistake (5th).
In the 23rd minute, Pauline Bremer had another good chance for Cologne on a counterattack, but her shot missed the opponent’s goal.
As the first half progressed, the guests got into the game better. A cross from Nadine Riesen found Laura Freigang in a promising position in the penalty area – but the offensive player’s header flew well over the goal (35th).
Freigang equalizes
The Frankfurt team managed to equalize with their first chance of the second half: Under pressure, Eintracht attacker Nicole Anyomi passed the ball in the penalty area to her teammate Freigang, who curled the ball into the top right corner of the goal from the edge of the penalty area (58′).
Chiba takes Frankfurt lead
And just five minutes after the equalizer, the Frankfurt team turned the game completely in their favor: Cologne defender Amelie Bohnen was unable to clear the ball in her own penalty area and unfortunately passed the ball to Chiba – the Frankfurt player scored from around six meters to make it 2-1 for the guests (63′).
Until then, Cologne had kept Frankfurt’s offense in check with a compact defense – with the second goal, FC coach Carlson’s concept was no longer valid.
In the final phase, Cologne tried to exert more offensive pressure, but were no longer able to seriously threaten the Eintracht defense. Instead, Frankfurt’s Rebecka Blomqvist had a good chance on a counterattack, but shot wide of the goal (83′).
There was no more goal scored, meaning the Cologne team remained winless in their 16th duel with Eintracht. The Hessians scored three important points in the race for a place in the Champions League.
