Women’s Bundesliga: FC Bayern beats Eintracht Frankfurt

The FC Bayern Munich footballers have won the Bundesliga’s top game. Relegation candidate Cologne also scored important points.

FC Bayern won a hard-fought game at Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 (1-0) on Saturday (March 9, 2024) and now has four points more than VfL Wolfsburg.

The Lower Saxony team will play against RB Leipzig on Monday (7.30 p.m.) and can then restore the old distance. In two weeks there will be a direct duel between the two top favorites in Wolfsburg.

FCB with luck and skill

The national players Klara Bühl (21st minute) and Lea Schüller (77th) scored the goals for the Munich team in front of 5,750 spectators in the stadium at Brentanobad, who got off to a strong start but also had a bit of luck in the second half.

Alber’s brace in Hoffenheim’s victory

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim showed no weaknesses in the second game on Saturday. Thanks to a brace from Mara Alber (14th, 39th) in the first half, TSG beat 1. FC Nürnberg 2-0 (2-0). Hoffenheim (27 points) overtook Eintracht Frankfurt (26) in the fight for a place for the Champions League qualification and is now third.

After a dominant start from the hosts, Alber made it 1-0 with a 16-meter shot. Hoffenheim also had the better chances afterwards and were particularly dangerous in transition. The 2-0 also came after winning the ball, which Alber refined with a shot from an acute angle.

30,123 spectators watch FC win

On Sunday, 1. FC Köln scored important points in the relegation battle. According to the club, there were 30,123 spectators in the stadium for the 2-1 (1-0) win against Werder Bremen – that is a season record.

Marleen Schimmer (31st) put FC in the lead with a penalty kick that she took herself. Five minutes after Bremen’s Jasmin Sehan (76′) equalized, Carlotta Wamser (81′) scored the winning goal.

Draw in Freiburg

No goals were scored in the midfield duel between SC Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen. After the performance-based 0-0 draw, Bayer (fifth place) remains one point ahead of Freiburg (eighth place).
