After the 5-0 defeat against Union Berlin and the international break, the women of RB Leipzig have reported back impressively. In the duel at SC Freiburg, the team from Saxony celebrated a well-deserved 4-2 away win.

Leipzig lead through Ásgeirsdóttir – Müller with a Sunday shot

After a lively start by the hosts, RB had their first good chance in the 10th minute through Gina Chmielinski, who tested SC goalkeeper Laura Benkarth with a powerful shot. The SCF were unable to clear the subsequent corner and so the ball came to the feet of Emilía Ásgeirsdóttir, who took the lead from four meters at the far post.

As a result, a balanced game developed. After 32 minutes, Marlene Müller increased the lead to 2-0 at the break with a soulful shot from a good 20 meters over keeper Benkarth.

Schasching increases to 3-0 – Baum ends Freiburg’s hopes

Shortly after the start of the second half, the Freiburg goalkeeper was once again in the spotlight when she barely prevented Leipzig from scoring a third goal with a save after a shot from Müller. As a result, the Breisgau team tried to catch up, but RB hardly left any gaps in defense. In the 73rd minute, the team from Saxony struck again when ex-Freiburg player Annabel Schasching made it 3-0 from 14 meters. However, Freiburg didn’t give up and rewarded themselves four minutes later with Svenja Fölmli’s header.

However, Leipzig did not allow themselves to be disconcerted and restored the old distance in the 85th minute when Lisa Baum only had to push in after strong preparatory work from Müller. Freiburg then scored the final point again through Luca Birkholz (88th), who used a flat cross to make it 2-4. It was the guests’ first win against the team from Breisgau.
