With probably their best performance of the season, the women of 1. FC Köln clearly showed the limits of newly promoted team Nuremberg.
1. FC Köln clearly beat 1. FC Nürnberg 3-0 (3-0) on Friday and moved past Nuremberg in the table. FC is now in ninth place and has ten points. The FCN ranks one place and point behind. Pauline Bremer (23rd), Martyna Wiankowska (40th) and Sara Agrez (45th) scored the goals for the visiting team.
Cologne with a very strong first half
In the duel between their table neighbors, the Cologne team started agilely, Nuremberg was initially lurking on the counterattack. FC’s first dangerous attack led directly to the lead: Bremer received a great pass from Anna-Lena Stolze outstandingly and lobbed past Russek in the Nuremberg goal.
After half an hour, the hosts’ lead was deserved; Cologne had the better passing rate and the higher proportion of ball possession. Stolze almost increased, but failed because of Russek (38th). But just 60 seconds later, the “trömmelche” sounded for the second time in the Franz Kremer Stadium: Wiankowska converted a corner into the backcourt with the help of the inside post. Even before the break things got bitter for the Nünberg women when a cross from Anna Gerhardt was converted by Agrez.
FC manages leadership confidently
After the break, FC continued to act courageously and full of self-confidence: Agrez headed just over the goal. The promoted team then stabilized without becoming really dangerous. The game now became noticeably flat – Cologne defended cleverly and slowed down offensively, Nuremberg seemed at a loss against the well-positioned defense.
Substitute Weronika Zawistowska provided a highlight for the first time in a long time: Russek made a strong save from her shot from around 20 meters. In the final minutes of the game the game was bubbling along – a decision had long since been made.
