The Thuringians go into the game against Freiburg with a spark of hope. But after 38 seconds this goes out.

FC Carl Zeiss Jena has missed the last theoretical chance of staying in the league and has been relegated from the women’s Bundesliga. Coach Florian Kästner’s team lost 1:5 (0:3) in the home game against SC Freiburg. The Thuringian club is relegated from the women’s Bundesliga after two years.

Jena got off to a forgettable start, Svenja Fölmli scored for the guests from Freiburg after just 38 seconds. Lisa Kolb (34th minute), Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir (42nd), Sophie Nachtigall (62nd) and again Fölmli (87th) scored the other goals. The goal by Jena’s Isabella Jaron (63′) was just a side note.

Traditional club Essen is also threatened with relegation to the second division. The SGS, which has been in the Bundesliga continuously since 2004, is currently second to last in the table. Essen is three points behind Hamburger SV, but also has a significantly worse goal difference. Points are needed in the remaining games at 1. FC Nürnberg (May 8th) and in the season finale against Freiburg.
