The 17-year-old boy thought he would have a pleasant evening on November 13, 2021 with Sophie R. and Sanne V. (19), but when he wanted to go home at midnight, the atmosphere turned into a nightmare. The girls held him captive in Sanne V.’s Fiat 500 for three hours, demanding his bank card, login details to his social media accounts and information about his family during the ride.

“I was terrified. I really didn’t think I would survive,” said the boy Friday in the Amsterdam court, through his lawyer Linotte. In fact, he dreaded the confrontation with his tormentors so much that he didn’t want to come to court.

The public prosecutor demanded ninety days of juvenile detention against Sanne V., of which 73 days suspended, a community service order of ninety hours and a ban on contact with the victim.

Against Sophie R. she demanded two hundred days of juvenile detention, a conditional youth detention, compulsory treatment, ankle bracelet and no contact with the victim.

street robbery

Sophie R. has been behind bars for six months. She has a criminal record for committing a previous street robbery.

In court, the girls pointed the finger of blame at each other. Sanne V. said that she did not threaten herself and only carried out what Sophie R. told her, “so that it would soon be over.” She acted out of fear of Sophie R. ,,I shouldn’t have done it. It’s not who I want to be.”

Sophie R. claims that she “actually felt sorry for the boy”, but that she was afraid of Sanne V. who gave her “threatening looks”. They did not look at each other in the courtroom.

What happened is absolutely unacceptable, said lawyer Kilinç. But Sophie R. and Sanne V. ,,are not Thelma and Louise,’ he said, explaining. “The girls let it get completely out of hand, but there was no preconceived plan.”

impulse

Whether it was an impulse or a preconceived plan doesn’t matter to the boy. Since his kidnapping, he has struggled with sleepless nights and hardly dares to go out on the street. Even in the company of his friends, he doesn’t feel safe outside. He has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and has difficulty concentrating on his studies.

According to the prosecutor, both girls act as if they couldn’t do much about it. ,,As if the atmosphere changed the way the weather can change. It is time to put the responsibility back where it belongs: to Sanne V. and Sophie R., who had the choice to stop, but continued anyway.” Judgment June 10.
