A woman died Friday morning after a fatal fall from a window on the Wolphaertsbocht in the Tarwewijk in Rotterdam. Help was to no avail: the victim died on the spot. Police found a seriously injured man behind the house. He has been transferred to the hospital.

The yelling on the other side of the street attracts the attention of a neighbor across the street at a quarter to seven in the morning. “There is so much shouting here. I usually don’t respond to that. But this sounded very different. She was in total panic,” she said.

When she looks outside, she sees the woman at the open window. She hangs outside screaming. “And then she fell down.” The witness quickly tries to open her door to help. “But I couldn’t get the key in the lock. I was so shocked. I couldn’t resuscitate either, because I just had surgery on my hand.” Other help is also quickly on site.

Family full of sorrow

A few hours later she looks to the right with compassion, where family and relatives of the victim have meanwhile gathered. They cry out in grief and seek support from each other. ,,I would love to put an arm around them, because I really feel a connection with them and I empathize with them. But of course they don’t know me at all.”

Local resident Raymond will also remain nearby this morning. He drives by shortly after the fall to take his wife to work. “Suddenly my wife says: there is someone in the parking lot.” Raymond doesn’t believe her and drives backwards where he sees it for himself. Half in the parking lot, half on the sidewalk, a woman lies on her stomach, wearing only a nightgown. He also sees blood, a lot of blood.

Already in the house what happened

While he gets out, another man takes care of the victim and calls 112. At the request of the emergency room, Raymond checks whether the woman is still breathing. “But she doesn’t do that anymore.” When he looks up, he sees an open window on the second floor. There is blood on the net curtains and the window frame. “Apparently something had happened inside,” Raymond concludes.

The emergency services are on the scene within minutes – the neighbor across the street and the passer-by both called immediately – but the woman can no longer be saved. “It was very intense to see her. You are of course very scared. I just had a cup of coffee with my mother to talk about it”, says Raymond.

A few minutes later, he sees the emergency services going through a neighbor’s house to the backyards. There they find a seriously injured man who is taken to hospital. It is unclear what happened in the house. Forensic officers are investigating the home. We also talk to neighbors. A white tent has been erected over the victim and the street is completely closed off on one side.

Wave of Incidents

Earlier this week, the neighborhood was also startled by two incidents: died on Sunday afternoon baby Emily after a stabbing at the Wolphaertsbocht. The father, a 22-year-old soldier from Rotterdam, was arrested for this. A few days later, a house shot at Hellevoetstraat. There was an explosive in the letterbox of the house, which was removed by the Explosives Clearance Service Defense.
