Woman (88) victim of chat trick and a few months later of home invasion

An 88-year-old woman from Oss has twice fallen victim to criminals who entered her home. The first time was in October 2022, but the perpetrators returned a few months later for a home robbery. Images of them are shown in Bureau Brabant.

On October 4 last year, the woman received a call from someone pretending to be an employee of Rabobank. There is apparently something wrong with her account and the caller asks for her account number. She doesn’t want to give that and she says she prefers to discuss banking matters when her niece is present.

Then the doorbell rings. A ‘bank employee’ stands at the door and asks again for her account number. She lets him in and walks to the safe where her administration is located. He follows her and waits until the safe is open. There are several envelopes with money in there, which she has already brought home to hand out to her nieces and nephews at Christmas: 25,000 euros in total. The man runs off with the envelopes.

Safe key
“She has become insecure and distrustful and is startled by noise,” says her niece. The safe key has been in a different location ever since. That’s a good idea, because on January 18, three months after the chat trick, criminals come by again around eight o’clock in the evening.

There are three of them. Two of them climb over the wall of the backyard, smash a window and enter. They immediately walk to the safe and ask for the key. One man remains on the lookout. The woman says that the key lies with her brother. They search the entire house for any other loot, but find nothing. The woman runs outside in panic and calls for help.

One of the perpetrators is small (about 1.60 meters), just like the perpetrator of the chat trick. That is why the police believe it is the same perpetrator, together with two other perpetrators.

“She is now scared, has trouble sleeping and eating poorly,” says her niece. “You see someone of that age really deteriorate. She also moved.”
