The fire started on Monday evening in a house along Machelenstraat in Zulte. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. When the fire brigade arrived on the scene, flames were already shooting out of the roof. One person was present in the home when the fire broke out. It was an 82-year-old woman. She died. Her body was found in the living room. A second person was registered at the address, namely the victim’s brother. He was already in hospital at the time of the fire. The public prosecutor’s office will now be informed and a fire expert must investigate how the fire could have started.
