Woman (37) arrested for involvement in the art theft of the old city hall of Medemblik

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the art theft from the old town hall in Medemblik. The woman from Medemblik has now been released, but remains a suspect in the case.

A police spokesperson confirmed this after reporting Noordhollands Dagblad. The police are continuing to investigate the art theft in Medemblik: “We cannot rule out multiple arrests.”

Five paintings, a chandelier and a barometer were stolen from the former town hall in early September. A reward of 10,000 euros was offered for the golden tip that would lead to the return of the works.

A few weeks later something remarkable happened: the five paintings from Medemblik were returned to detective Arthur Brand. Historian Mark Raat said: “The way it happened is remarkable, but it’s great that they are back!”
