A 33-year-old woman from Hoogeveen has been sentenced to five years in prison for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old teenager. The sentence is equal to the demand of the Public Prosecution Service.
On April 20 this year, the woman stormed into a house in Hoogeveen, where the 16-year-old was staying with a friend. The woman was wearing a balaclava, sunglasses and black clothing. She immediately stabbed the 16-year-old.
According to the judge, it is a miracle that the boy survived. This is due to the thick winter coat he was wearing at the time, the judge said.
The woman had drunk a lot of alcohol that evening, together with a much younger friend. There had been texting back and forth with the boys, whom they had known for a long time. The teenager visited the suspect more often.
According to the woman, she once confided secrets to him. The teenager ran away with that. She felt betrayed by him.
She thought she was being taunted by him that night too. She decided to go there with her friend. According to the judge, she acted systematically. “I thought in advance to take a stabbing weapon, change clothes and put on a bivouac with sunglasses. He didn’t know we were coming,” the woman later said about that evening.
When she entered, she immediately stabbed, without thinking twice.
The woman suffers from a developmental disorder and has a mild intellectual disability. As a result, it does not function properly. The alcohol abuse made this more serious, experts concluded.
The woman is less accountable. The judge accepts this conclusion. Apart from that, the woman showed the judge that she was sincerely sorry. A prison sentence will have an impact on her future life and her children. She will have to give birth soon.
However, the criminal offense is too serious to impose a lower prison sentence on the woman. The prison sentence imposed is too high for a partially suspended prison sentence. The woman must pay the victim a sum of 3,000 euros.
