Sixteen months of juvenile detention have been demanded against two boys who were allegedly involved in the rape of a woman in the Burgemeester Geukerspark in Helmond. The suspects, aged seventeen and eighteen, will have to spend another eight months in juvenile detention if they commit another crime.

Last week the same sentence was demanded at the court in Den Bosch against two other suspects. A fifth boy who allegedly participated in the rape of a 31-year-old woman last December was sentenced to two years, of which six months was conditional. He is also said to have committed a violent theft.

Because the boys were minors when they allegedly abused the woman in the park, all trials took place behind closed doors. The suspects come from the municipalities of Tilburg and Waalwijk, among others.

After the rape, the municipality of Helmond installed cameras and extra lighting in the park to improve safety. Local residents have been complaining about nuisance for some time.

The verdict in all five cases is January 13 and therefore not after two weeks as usual.
