The interior is also being renewed. A private partner will soon place a brasserie, B&B and offices. According to Himpe, the castle will mean an important added value for the provincial domain, which attracted 66,800 visitors last year.
Wolvenhof has a rich history. During the First World War, the newly built castle was occupied by the German army and badly damaged. After the war, the Vanden Bogaerde family had it fully restored.
“Via the HeritageApp, visitors can today view numerous historical photos from that period,” explains Himpe.
The castle also acted as a backdrop for short films. In 2014, ‘De Vijver’ by director Jeroen Dumoulein was played. The short film ‘Javotte’ also used the impressive staircase as an eye -catcher.
