Wolfgang Van Halen reacts to Stunk by David Lee Roth

After former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth made derogatory comments towards Wolfgang Van Halen in a YouTube video in January, he now addresses the harsh words in an interview.

Speaking to The Morning I guess you have to take what he says with a grain of salt considering he also said that he [Eddie Van Halens klassisches Instrumental] ‘Eruption’ written and the Frankenstein pattern [rot-weiß-schwarz-gestreiftes Muster, das Eddie Van Halen auf seiner Gitarre berühmt gemacht hat] “He said he wrote all the solos Dad wrote.”

Van Halen Junior continued: “That’s probably all I can say. I seem to have been born into this Van Halen drama that happened long before me. And I guess now that my dad’s no longer here to be a target, he’s probably moved on to the next best thing.”

Wolfgang Van Halen joined the band when he was just 15 years old. With Wolfgang on bass, Van Halen went on extensive tours in 2007, 2012 and 2015. The band’s last series of concerts took place in the summer and fall of 2015. The North American tour included 41 concerts. It began on July 5, 2015 and ended on October 4, 2015.

Wolfgang Van Halen’s relationship with David Lee Roth

Van Halen has commented on Roth in the past. In 2021, he told Consequence: “We don’t really talk to each other. We’ve always been warm to each other on our tours together, but I haven’t spoken to him at all in the last six years.” Last year he also suggested that David Lee Roth was largely to blame for a planned Eddie Van Halen -Tribute concert never took place. At the time he told America’s Rolling Stone: “What I can say is that there was an attempt to do something. But you know, I don’t like to talk negatively about people, but there are some people who make it very difficult to do anything when it comes to Van Halen.”

In the video, which the singer uploaded in January, Roth recounted several of Wolfgang Van Halen’s stories and misadventures that allegedly happened during the band’s tour.

“This damn boy,” Roth says in the clip, “complains the whole tour that I don’t pay him enough attention on stage. He complains to everyone around me – the manager, the head of security, the clothing lady: ‘Dave doesn’t pay me enough attention.’
