Papendal (AP) – Team sprint Olympic champion René Wolff is the second time coach of the Dutch national team of track bike sprinters.
The 43-year-old from Erfurt will succeed Hugo Haak on February 1, who announced his retirement in autumn 2021. “I feel it’s an honor to be able to continue Hugo’s work,” Wolff was quoted on the association’s website.
The Dutch sprinters have been setting the standard for men for years. Harrie Lavreysen won gold and bronze twice at the Tokyo Olympics. Shanne Braspennincx was Olympic champion in the Keirin.
Wolff had already worked as a sprint trainer for the Dutch association KNWU from the beginning of 2010 until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Afterwards, the team sprint Olympic champion from 2004 and sprint world champion from 2005 switched to the Dutch NOK, before he worked as national coach in New Zealand from mid-2018 to the end of 2021. There he resigned from office in December.
