Spielmacher Juri Knorr gave the green light for an operation in the World Cup quarter-finals of German handball players against Portugal. The 24-year-old, who missed the main rounds against Italy and Tunisia due to illness, flew to Oslo’s venue on Monday (January 27, 2025). The teammates are looking forward to him.
On Wednesday (8:30 p.m.) the duel with the previously unbeaten Portuguese is pending in the Norwegian capital, the World Cup quarter-finals will be broadcast live in the first and in the ARD Mediathek from 8:15 p.m., reports Sportschau.de in the live ticker.
Knorr: “Ready for the quarterfinals”
“The days were good for me. I feel quite well so far“, Knorr told the SID on Monday:”We did a blood test again yesterday, the values are okay. I am ready for the quarter -finals, otherwise I would not be here. It’s crazy.“
With joy and relief, the teammates took note of the good news in Oslo on Monday afternoon. Lukas Stutzke, who also overcome a (not quite as bad) infection: “Everyone knows what Juri gives our team. He is our playmaker, especially in such a co-match it is super important that he is back with us.”
“One of our team’s heads”
Timo Kastening;: “Juri is one of the heads of the teams, very important for the rhythm because he has this eye for the situations. But you shouldn’t ask too much from him now, he was sick and have to come back in.”
Knorr had recently been held at the weekend for studies in Flensburg and for recovery with his family in Bad Schwartau. Now he should train again as soon as possible with the team of Alfred Gislason.
Chatton is “good mom”
The DHB selection had completed the main round with a 31:19 win against Tunisia. Afterwards, Gislason carefully expressed himself optimistic in the Knorr Personnel – and can now breathe a sigh of relief.
National team manager Benjamin Chatton, always very reserved for medical diagnoses, even wants a luxury problem for Gislason: “I’m very careful with Juri, but I’m good courage that we will be full again on Wednesday. I even hope that it will be too much in the end.”
Maybe even a luxury problem for Gislason
Against Tunisia, of 16 permitted actors were only 14 on the game report sheet of the DHB team, but only ten of which were used. Due to the nomination of the left back player Marian Michalczik from Hannover -Burgdorf, Gislason – since Rune Dahmke also cure his flu – would have 17 men against Portugal.
