With two vans full of goods to Ukraine and back with refugees

Actions rather than words. That is the motto of the Zaankanter Erwin Vinke and his uncle Kees Kopper. They collect items and money that they themselves want to bring to the Polish border with Ukraine for the refugees. Products that provide basic necessities such as diapers, baby food, food and drinks. Non-perishable foods and medicines.

Action

Kees and Erwin and two friends want to bring the stuff because they want to experience with their own eyes who will receive it. “I was always someone who knew how to do it,” says Kees, “but did little. Now it has to be different.” And Erwin, who works for the police, watched the terrible images on TV and thought: ‘I have to do something myself’. They have been able to arrange two buses, have already collected 1,600 euros and can collect carts full of goods from local supermarkets. They want to leave next Wednesday and take refugees with them on the way back. Erwin: “I already have an address where they are welcome”.

To cry

The men do not want to get in the way of other professional aid workers at the Polish border with their aid campaign. “If that is the case, we will leave immediately,” says Erwin. Kees adds: “We want to help the people who are now very unhappy”. They don’t know exactly what to expect. And Kees wonders aloud how he will react to crying women and children. “Maybe I’ll cry myself.”

In any case, they are very motivated to travel and hope that a lot of goods and money will come in in the coming days so that they can start their adventure with packed vans. Click here for a contribution.
