Hannover 96 and trainer André Breitenreiter separate themselves with immediate effect. This was announced by the second division soccer team on Wednesday. It continues with an interim solution – and in summer with a new coach.

It was less than four months. “We started properly, sometimes brought very appealing performances to the pitch – but we also left too many points. Afterwards, the development unfortunately no longer went in the right direction,” said sports director Marcus Mann in the message. According to the results of the past few weeks, it is clear: “We have to look at the new season from now on and will also change in the summer position in summer.”

There was a “very open and good conversation” with Breitenreiter on Wednesday. It quickly showed that “we share the view that it is right among these signs to make a cut now,” said Mann. The decision was made by mutual agreement.

Interim solution until the end of the season

Co-coach Thomas Kleine also leaves the coaching team. The previous assistant coach Lars Barlemann, U19 coach Dirk Lottner and U17 coach Christian Schulz take responsibility for the team in the four remaining season games.

Breitenreiter: decision “logical and consistent”

“In several phases of the second half of the season, we were tuned to make the leap to the top. Unfortunately, in too many games we have not managed to convert really good performances into victories.

After the recent 1: 3 bankruptcy in Darmstadt – the third defeat in a row – the promotion aspirant had recently had to tick off the hoped -for return to the Bundesliga.
