With his head held high and PR, hurdler Liam van der Schaaf leaves the World Indoor Championships

Liam van der Schaaf can look back on an excellent debut at the World Indoor Championships. The 23-year-old hurdler from Amsterdam steamed through to the semi-finals and ran a personal best of 7.69 seconds.

In the semi-finals, the athlete from Phanos got off to a good start. However, he hit the third hurdle quite hard after which the speed decreased. In the race he finished seventh and broke his personal best by three hundredths. Yesterday Van der Schaaf qualified for the semi-finals with an equal to his PR.

“After the series I had to wait a long time”, Van der Schaaf starts after his elimination. “I was a lot calmer than before the series. The start was good, but I hit hurdle three hard. I haven’t been very fit in recent weeks, I haven’t trained much. Then some carelessness creeps in, but I found it’s great to be here.”
