With Doll and Herrmann-Wick: Biathlon Association announces squad for World Cup

With Olympic champion Denise Herrmann-Wick and ex-world champion Benedikt Doll, but without Vanessa Hinz – the German Biathlon Union (DBU) has announced its squad for the start of the season.

Led by individual Olympic champion Denise Hermann-Wick, the German biathletes start the first World Cup of the World Cup season this weekend. This was announced by the German Biathlon Union (DBU) on Monday (November 21, 2022).

Herrmann-Wick, who now has a double name after her marriage to former cross-country skier Thomas Wick, was set due to her performances last winter, as were Franziska Preuß and Vanessa Voigt.

In the weekend test races in Vuokatti, Finland, Juliane Frühwirt, Sophia Schneider and Anna Weidel secured the last three starting places for the World Cup, which begins on November 29 in Kontiolahti, Finland.

Hettich-Walz and Hinz are missing from the squad

On the other hand, Janina Hettich-Walz – she also has a double name after her marriage – and veteran Vanessa Hinz have to recommend themselves for the A-Team in the second-rate IBU Cup for the time being.

Hinz had to contend with significant problems in preparation. The 30-year-old suffered from back problems and an illness. She also suffered a torn ligament in her left foot and a tendonitis in her right hand.

With Doll and Kühn, but without Fratzscher and Horn

In addition to Doll, Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath and Roman Rees also secured a place in the World Cup for men. There are also Justus Strelow and David Zobel.

The World Cup experienced Lucas Fratzscher and Philipp Horn did not make it into the squad. The squad nominations include the second World Cup in Hochfilzen from December 8th to 11th.
