Sebastian Holzmann is ending his career after twelve years in the World Cup. He still leaves it open as to what will happen next for him.
Ski racer Sebastian Holzmann has announced his retirement. “It’s hard to write this, but it feels like the right decision for me,” the 33-year-old wrote in a post on Instagram on Monday morning. “From now on a lot will change, I will ski as long as my body allows it, just no longer between the gates,” he announced.
In a series of six photos, Holzmann looks back on his career in various collages. For him, these include highlights such as fifth place at the 2023 World Championships, three German championships in the giant slalom and race victories as well as podium finishes in the overall ranking at the Far East Cup. He also thanked “the best teammates you could ask for,” international friendships, his fiancée and posted some pictures from his childhood. “Thank you all. Little me was able to live his dream.”

However, he also shows two photos of his “deepest lows.” There you can see his left knee shortly after an operation in 2021 after his kneecap popped out and cartilage had to be transplanted. In addition, his right knee had to be operated on in December 2024 after a cruciate ligament tear and cartilage damage.
Numerous companions and ski colleagues such as Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Alexander Schmid and Atle Lie McGrath wrote to his post and wished him all the best for the future. Sebastian Holzmann completed his first World Cup race in January 2014.
