The winter sports village of Sölden in Austria is taking a remarkable measure. An alcohol ban will apply from December 1. The measure, which in addition to the center also extends to other busy places in the famous après-ski resort, should bring ‘peace, safety and quality of life’, according to a statement on the municipality’s website. Alcohol can be consumed in catering establishments. The ban currently applies until mid-April 2026 and will be enforced under penalty of fines. Anyone who drinks alcohol in prohibited places can expect a fine of up to 2,000 euros. Miranda Muller from the website skiinformatie.nl explains what it means for winter sports enthusiasts.
