Winsum bows his tired head for Broekster Boys in extra time

For Winsum, the playoffs for promotion to the fourth division only lasted one game. A beautiful, passionate battle. The Winsumers bowed in extra time. Broekster Boys won 2-1.

Broekster Boys against Winsum was pure advertising for amateur football. Many hundreds of enthusiasts along the line – including viewers from Spijkenisse for the next round – and two teams that sought the attack with pace and sharpness. Two teams that also look back on the season with satisfaction, staying out of relegation worries was the objective.

After Abe Koopmans hit the crossbar on behalf of the home team after just 4 minutes, Winsum took the lead. Tijs Mulder took advantage of rumblings in the Frisian defense (0-1). That lead could easily have increased before the teams went to the break, but Yume Ramos, Heinze Andringa and Hans Zwakenberg failed to pass Sander de Boer again from close range.

Miraculous rescue Wouter Meijer

On the other hand, goalkeeper Wouter Meijer grew into the man of Winsum in the first company. He made excellent saves a few times, especially the save on the Bauke-Jan Douma bet was miraculous.

Referee Luc Baars (from Tilburg, had to work again on Wednesday morning at 7 o’clock) was good at everything and soon treated three men to a yellow card.

Broekster Boys physically threw another shovel on top. You have to catch foxes with foxes and for that you can send Winsum Yume Ramos’ dyed-in-the-wool captain. Fred de Boer already knew what had to be done differently after 30 minutes and instructed his substitutions.

Winsum – Broekster Boys

Let’s go back to last Saturday when Winsum – Broekster Boys (co-)decided the title fight. The local supermarket, sponsor of Broekster Boys, had a few hundred crates of beer, sausage blocks, cheese and many mini snacks ready. A phone call from Winsum was enough to set the spectacle in motion. With a win, ‘de Broek’, as they call the club in Damwoude and the surrounding area, was champion of the unprecedented exciting first division.

But that did not work out. Winsum wanted the three points, including the period title and the men of coach Fred de Boer succeeded. Both teams, the supporters and supervisors had barely processed the exciting denouement with the so different feelings afterwards when they were already facing each other again. Winsum as the winner of the third period, Broekster Boys on the basis of the ranking, after which the Orange just kept Nassau to themselves as the big loser without a consolation prize.

Unusual tension

After the break, Broekster Boys quickly put the cards right through a beautiful cone from Bouke Jan Douma (1-1). After that it remained unusually exciting, but the killer pace took its toll. Accuracy disappeared like ice cream in the summer sun. Goalkeeper Meijer got away well after a ‘keepertje keepertje’ and Raul Bello shot just wide. His long throws remained menacing. Just before the end, Kooistra headed on top of the Winsum crossbar.

Broekster Boys had called forty bus companies to find a bus for a possible trip to Spijkenisse. Fortunately, Winsum board member Wendy Mekel offered to take over the Winsumer bus.

Lit it barre

‘Lit it barre’, was written on a large banner behind one of the goals. It didn’t seem to happen for a long time, but it finally did. In extra time, in which both teams were completely through, the Frisians struck. First, Sander Jongsma was taken away from the home club and picked up by an ambulance. Eight minutes before the penalty kicks, Vincent Hoekstra headed a nice cross behind the hopeless Meijer: 2-1.

Yume Ramos was close to equalizing twice. He headed on the inside of the post, but the great season is over for the brave Winsum. And Wendy Mekel’s bus is allowed to go to Spijkenisse with Broekster Boys.
