Winston Bogarde feels thrown into the trash by Ajax: ‘As long as Van der Sar is there, they don’t have to call’ | Dutch football

Bogarde worked for seven years as a trainer at Ajax, the club with which he won the Champions League as a player. In recent years he was one of the assistants of head coach Erik ten Hag. The now dismissed trainer Alfred Schreuder did not need him in the technical staff and appointed the German Matthias Kaltenbach as his assistant. ,,I gave everything for the club and I was put in the trash out of the blue”, said Bogarde.

The former defender does not rule out a return to Ajax. “Ajax is a great club”, he said. “But as long as Van der Sar is there, they don’t have to call me”, he referred to the current general manager of Ajax.

Bogarde understands that Michael Reiziger will leave Ajax at the end of the season. Not the trainer who made Jong Ajax champion, but John Heitinga was appointed as temporary successor to the dismissed Schreuder. ,,While Michael has more experience. It is painful to see the club perform so poorly this season after great years in the Champions League,” said the former defender. ,,The leadership has made many wrong decisions and that trickles down to the first team. The DNA of Ajax is increasingly being extracted from the club. In the first team I miss certain things that players can fall back on when things go badly.”
