Winning Tony van Diepen runs World Cup limit in unprecedentedly fast time

Tony van Diepen and Maayke Tjin A-Lim have shown good form in matches in Bydgoszcz and Manchester. Van Diepen ran the World Cup limit in a super fast time, while Tjin A-Lim also improved her personal best.

At the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland, Van Diepen won the 800 meters. He did that in a personal best of 1.44.31. With that, the athlete from Heerhugowaard was well below the World Cup limit (1.45.20). He had previously met the requirement for the European Championship. Van Diepen’s previous PR was 1.44.82.

Due to his fast time, the North Hollander is now fourth on the list of fastest Dutch people of all time. Only Bram Som, Rob Druppers and Marko Koers ever ran the 800 meters faster.

It was also a successful evening for the Hoornse Tjin A-Lim. She finished second in Manchester in the 100 meters hurdles behind Mette Laugesen Graversgaard. The North Holland did that in 13 seconds and 2 hundredths. With that, she dipped below her personal best of 13.13. That time, she ran tonight in the series. Due to the headwind, she did not reach the European Championship limit (12.93).

Among the men, Liam van der Schaaf and Koen Smet were second and third in the 110 meter hurdles. They raced to 13.79 and 13.82. Only Wellington Zaza was faster with 13.64.
