The northeastern United States and Canada have been rocked by an unprecedented cold. On Mount Washington in the state of New Hampshire, a wind chill of -78 degrees Celsius was observed, the lowest ever in the US (including Alaska). Images from the mountain top (see above) seem as if they come from another planet.
