While Arcade Fire will continue, Win Butler and Régine Chassagne’s marriage will not continue. The band members announced this on Thursday (October 30th) in a joint statement on social media.

“After a long and loving marriage, Win and Régine have decided to separate,” it said. “They continue to love, admire and support each other as they raise their son together.”

22 years of marriage and a shared musical history

Butler and Chassagne married in 2003 and had their first child in April 2013. The two have been considered the heart of the band since Arcade Fire’s early days – both on stage and in the creative process.

In 2022, Butler hit the headlines after five people accused him of emotional abuse, sexual misconduct and manipulation. Although Butler admitted extramarital relationships, he denied that they took place without consent.

Chassagne publicly stood by Butler’s side

At the time, Chassagne stood behind her husband in a public statement: “Win is my soulmate, my songwriting partner, my husband, the father of my beautiful boy. He has been my partner in life and music for 20 years.”

She added that she had witnessed Butler suffering immense emotional distress: “I know what is in his heart and I know that he has never touched a woman without her consent and would never touch her.
He lost his way and found it again. I love him and love the life we have created together.”

Butler herself also spoke of a difficult time at the time: “Régine watched patiently as I suffered and tried to help me as best she could. I know that it must have been very difficult for her to see the person she loved so lost.”

Arcade Fire want to continue

Despite the separation, the band Arcade Fire remains. Their latest statement reads: “Their connection as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire. The band sends its love and looks forward to seeing you all on tour soon.”

Arcade Fire released their sixth studio album “We” in May 2022 and followed up with “Pink Elephant” in May 2025.

There are currently no new concert dates planned. The band still consists of Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara.
