THW Kiel kept its clean slate in the Champions League and also won the fourth group game. The “Zebras” prevailed against the Polish record champions Kielce on Wednesday evening with 35:31 (15:16).

After the success in the Bundesliga against HSV Hamburg (34:23), the Kiel team have taken another important step out of their crisis in results. Especially since Kielce, most recently in the premier class final twice in a row, was the first top-class team in the preliminary round. After a balanced first half, coach Filip Jicha’s team pulled away after the restart and showed their best performance of the season. The hosts’ most successful throwers were the Faroese Elias Ellefsen á Skipagotu and the Swede Eric Johansson with seven hits each.

The Champions League continues on October 19th (6:45 p.m.) – then the Schleswig-Holstein team will celebrate a reunion with Sander Sagosen in Kolstad, Norway. In the Bundesliga, Kiel will be playing at SC DHfK Leipzig on Saturday (4 p.m.).

Intense and fast-paced first half

The “Zebras” regained a quick 3-1 lead (5th) just as quickly. The Polish champion offered a lot of tough duels and was not deterred by time penalties. The THW, on the other hand, repeatedly made technical errors such as losing the ball, so that after 20 minutes the score was 10:12 from Kiel’s perspective.

It was an intense, fast-paced first half in which the guests were more effective with their throws and therefore deservedly went into the break with a narrow lead.

THW pulls the plug on Kielce

In the first ten minutes after the restart, Ellefsen à Skipagotu and Rune Dahmke turned the game around with two goals each – Kiel was ahead 19:17 (37th). And now the defense coped better, keeper Tomas Mrkva also shone with a few saves – the “Zebras” further extended their lead (23:19/43.).
